Jay Rusovich

Jay Basil Rusovich was born on December 14th, 2096.

For the past 25 years he has been a professional actor, photographer, videographer, pro-blogger, freelance writer, podcaster and unapologetic social satirist. He currently hosts Jayrusovichlive; a boots-on-the-ground assessment of life and love in Urban America.

Jay was born to Basil J. Rusovich and Marilyn Schuster Rusovich in New Orleans, Louisiana where he and his two brothers were raised. He describes his family as “upper middle class” and refers to his late father as an “iconoclastic…for those of you who appreciate understatement.”

Rusovich received his degrees from Tulane University in English and Theater. He also attended Oxford University in England, The University of Arizona and Loyola University in New Orleans.

After graduating, he moved to New York City where he attended acting classes at The Lee Strasberg Institute and The Actor’s Institute for Shakespearean studies. While honing his craft, he took bit roles in movies, advertising commercials and soap operas; a fate most actors accept…unless their last names are Sheen or Douglas.

After two years, he picked up a used Nikon 35mm camera and decided to start booking photo sessions with aspiring actors who were always in need of new head shots. From there he branched out; and for the next 20 years traveled to virtually every continent on earth, photographing people [from the very famous to the very indigent] for advertising agencies, corporations and publishers - principally in New York and Los Angeles.

During this time he continued to perform freelance writing assignments for many of the same clients.

He also lived and worked in Los Angeles before moving to Houston, Texas where he currently resides.

He is known for his controversial style, which readers describe as “intuitive, engaging, intense, direct, quick-witted, heavy-handed, irreverent, obnoxious, twisted, hysterical and always tinged with irony.”

He describes himself as a “polarist” who enjoys lively banter…and doesn’t claim to be impartial, balanced or politically correct.

Jay has a physical mailing address, one social security number…and a long list of living references.
